1. Background

  • The new office complex for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, “Vanijya Bhawan,” and the “National Import-Export Record for Yearly Analysis of Trade” (NIRYAT) portal, which will provide data on India’s international trade, has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi

2. About Vanijya Bhawan:

  • According to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office, Vanijya Bhawan is being built close to India Gate on a 4.33-acre property and is envisioned as a smart building that incorporates sustainable architecture principles with a focus on energy conservation.
  • More than 56% of the 214 trees on the property were either left alone or were planted again during the building’s construction.
  • Modern amenities including smart access control, central air conditioning, video conferencing, and fully networked systems are available in the 1,000-person capacity building.

3. About NIRYAT

  • It is a “one-stop platform,” NIRYAT has been created to provide stakeholders with access to all the information they require regarding the country’s international commerce.

4. Associated benefits and potential 

  • “This new Vanijya Bhawan and NIRYAT portal represent our aspirations of an 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'. It will bring positive changes in the field of trade and commerce, especially for MSMEs,"
  • New Vanijya Bhawan will significantly benefit people associated with trade, commerce and the MSME sector
  • Despite global disruptions last year, India exported a total of $670 billion- ₹50 lakh crores. Exports are vital to a country's progress. Initiatives like 'Vocal for Local' have also accelerated the country's exports.
  • Last year, the country had decided that despite every challenge, it had to cross the threshold of $ 400 billion i.e. 30 lakh crore merchandise export. 
  • But we crossed this also and made a new record of export of $ 418 billion i.e. 31 lakh crore rupees.
  • “Today, every ministry, every department of the government is giving priority to increasing exports with a 'whole of government' approach." Be it the Ministry of MSME or Ministry of External Affairs, Agriculture or Commerce, all are making common efforts for a common goal,".

  • The commercial building is also a symbol of our achievements in the field of commerce during this period.
