What is CAATSA?
CAATSA is a US Law. Under this federal law, American Government impose sanctions on any country that has " significant transactions with Iran, North Korea and Russia"
According to this law, Economic and Financial Penalties are imposed on any nation which transacts with Russia on Norms. this law has been in force since 2017
According to the US officials, the Right to decide on CAATSA Sanctions vested with American President Joe Bidden. he is yet to confirm this issue
Should India worry about this?
Russia has been one of the biggest arms suppliers to India for decades. according to reports Rusian Arms Constitute half of India's arms Imports. with the situation like Ukraine India has no room to wiggle
India has previously had sanctions when it bought oil from Iran, Trump warned India in 2018 when India had a deal of 500 Million USD to buy 5 S-400 from Russia
Turkey had similar sanctions when it S-400 missile defence systems from Russia
