Steps were taken in the interest of Migrants
- Any issue relating to Indians residing abroad is dealt with on a priority basis.
- Missions and centres organise open houses to discuss the issues of securities of NRIs.
- The issues raised in the open houses are taken with the host government to take action on a priority basis.
- Workers are given pre-departure orientation training before migrating abroad, A manual which is available in the regional languages Parvasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana provides insurance to the workers.
- MADAD portal, Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF), e-migrate portal, Parvasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendra, Rishta Portal, etc. help NRIs in getting assistance and redressal for their grievances and ensuring their safety.
- Up to November 2021, more than 2.78 lakh NRIs have been assisted under Indian Community Welfare Fund.
- To help Indians, MADAD Portal was launched in February 2015 in which the student registration module was prepared in July 2016.
- ICWF is being used for the welfare of NRIs of the 132 countries in the world.
- The amount from this fund is spent on the evacuation of the Indians stranded abroad to return to India.
- Complaints of the NRIs are taken through calls, walk-in e-mail, social media platforms and helplines.
- The government of India launched the skilled worker's Arrival database for the employment support (SWADES) portal for migrants who are brought back from the country from abroad during the covid-19 pandemic.
- The purpose of the database is to map the skills of the workers returned under Vanda Bharat Mission and connect them with Indian and Foreign Companies.
- A database facility is provided along with uploading the details on Aatmanibhar Skilled Employee Mapping (Aseem) portal for contacting employers under SWADES.
- As of February 28, 2022, over 33, 957 citizens have registered for the SWADES skill card.
- Launched a new portal named Rishta for better connectivity with the Indian community across the globe.
- With this portal, it will be easy to reach out to the Indian diaspora in difficult times fastly.
- The portal will also help in harassing the experience of Indian citizens spread across the globe for the development of India.
- In the previous government, there is a separate ministry for overseas Indians, which has been merged with the Ministry of external affairs to enable better coordination.
- The government of India has merged the person of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) programs.
- OCI cards have been issued to 25.10 Migrants till December 2021.
